Too Busy to Camp? That’s Exactly Why You Should Go This Fall

Five children walk together outside on a sunny day; one holds a basketball, one carries a skateboard, and all have backpacks or bags. The air is starting to change. Mornings are a little cooler and calendars are filling up quickly with school schedules, sports practices, and after-school activities. For many of us, fall is the season when life speeds up after the beach towels are packed away - a blur of drop-offs, pickups, and “what’s for dinner?” And it’s right about now that I start hearing the same thing from friends, neighbors, and even fellow campers: “We’re just too busy to camp this time of year.”  But here’s the thing… if you’re busy, that’s exactly when you need it most.

I get it better than anyone! The weekends feel short, and there’s a lot competing for our attention. But camping isn’t about having hours to spare; it’s about how you choose to spend the time you have. A quick overnight under the stars or a weekend at your favorite park can be just as restorative as the week-long trip you may have taken this summer.

When you carve out the time to camp during your busiest seasons, something wonderful happens:
Conversations get longer. Without screens or constant rushing, your family has the opportunity to talk. Whether it’s around the campfire, on a golf cart ride, or casting a fishing line, you learn what’s on everyone’s minds without the noise of the regular day.

Things feel lighter. Maybe you squeeze in a camping trip during your daughter’s soccer tournament, or you pick up your son from football practice and head to a cabin rental close to home. Even if the calendar is still full, time outdoors seems to stretch. Sitting around a campfire has a way of making you forget that Monday is just around the corner.

S’more memories. Years from now when your family thinks back on fall 2025, I bet the stories they tell or memories they have won’t be about the weekend you stayed home to catch up on laundry. It will be the one where you roasted marshmallows together or won the campground chili cookoff!

Don’t get me wrong - we love camping all season long! But fall camping has its own kind of charm. Fewer crowds, colorful scenery, and cozy campfire nights. Remember, you don’t need to travel far; even a local campground can feel like a world away! Book a campsite, warm up the cider, and let the to-do list wait. Your calendar will always be busy, but your kids won’t always be this age, and these moments won’t always be within reach.

Take it from me - the busier you are, the more you need the stillness that camping brings.
